One thing I really like to do is figure out ways to make someone else's task easier. Be it a customer or a co worker. There is nothing more rewarding as a programmer than helping make others job easier and more efficient, which can also reduce the chance for errors. This could even improve their morale. A lot of time automating a task is best to allow the person to have more time to do something else especially if it is a repetitive one.
